Big things, one task at a time.
A project is a chunk of work with tasks under it. Open it and every task is in one list, in the order you mean to do them. The next one is always a single thing, not the whole project.
Move house
3 of 14 tasks done
One project card, Move house, marked Active, with a progress bar reading 3 of 14 tasks done.
One project, one list, in your order.
Open a project and every task in it is there. Open ones first, finished ones settled at the bottom, nothing split across screens.
Drag them into the order you actually mean to tackle. That order is saved. It is not a priority list and it does not touch your three for today.
Add the next task without leaving the panel. It opens the normal task form with the project already filled in.
Launch the newsletter
3 of 7 tasks done
One project, Launch the newsletter, with three of its seven tasks finished. The four open tasks are listed first and can be dragged into order. The three finished ones are settled below them.
How a project stays out of the way.
- 01
One list, in your order
Every task in the project is on one screen, done ones settled at the bottom, so the next thing to do is always the top one you have not ticked.
- 02
The area fills itself in
File a task into a project and it picks up that project's area. If the project has no area, it takes the one on the goal above it.
- 03
It does not run your day
Tasks in a project only reach today if you choose them. Nothing is pushed into your three because a project is big or a date is coming.
Too big to start, or broken into tasks.
The thing you keep skipping past is usually not one task. It is eleven, and the list only ever showed you the name.
One line on a list
Redo the website
- It is a single item
- It never gets ticked off
- You scroll past it every day
It is too big to start, so it stays there looking like something you keep failing to do.
The same thing, as a project
4 of 11 tasks done
- Every task in one place
- In the order you'll do them
- The next one is small
You are not redoing the website today. You are writing one page of copy, and that one is finishable.
What it won't do
A project holds the work. It does not decide what the work is.
It won't break the project down for you. You write the tasks, because you are the one who knows what the next step is. The paid AI can split a captured thought into tasks, and that is a different job.
It won't reorganize itself. A project that turned out to be two projects stays as one until you move the tasks across. You move them one at a time.
A deadline on a project is a note to yourself. Nothing counts down to it and nothing turns red, so if a date genuinely matters it belongs on a task.
