We ask before we set them.

The short version

The app sets only what it needs to keep you signed in. This marketing site sets nothing at all unless you agree to it, with one exception, the checkout page, described under Paying below: our visitor counter is cookieless and always on, and the two analytics tools that do use cookies load only after you press Allow.

We run no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels, and we do not sell or share any of it for advertising.

What the app sets

  • A session cookie, so you stay signed in between visits. Without it you would have to log in on every page.
  • A small amount of local storage in your browser for your own preferences, such as light or dark theme. It never leaves your device.

Paying

When you buy a plan, the checkout opens on this site at /checkout and is run by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle sets what it needs to take the payment and prevent fraud, on that page only, and only when you arrive there from the app with a purchase to complete. Your card details go to Paddle and never to us.

How we count visitors

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits to this site. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and builds no profile of you. It does not know who you are and cannot follow you to another website. It is run by Vercel, who host the site, so the counting happens where the pages are already served from.

It records the page, the country, the kind of device, and the site that linked you, all of it grouped rather than tied to a person. If you arrive from a campaign link we also pass that campaign name to your account when you sign up, so we know which posts brought people in. The privacy policy covers that in full.

If you press Allow, a few more join it on this site, and only on this site. Google Analytics tells us which pages people read and where they leave, and it sets its own cookies to recognise a returning browser. Microsoft Clarity shows us where people click and scroll, and records how pages get used so we can see what is confusing. If we are running ads, a Meta pixel tells us whether an ad brought somebody who stayed.

Clarity records what happens on a page. Our forms are masked, so a recording shows that somebody typed something and never what they typed, and we have turned off the advertising and cross-site profiling features of Google Analytics. Neither of them runs in the Actto app itself, only on this website.

Why there is a banner now

This page used to say a banner would be theatre, and it was right: nothing we used stored anything on your device that was not strictly necessary, so there was nothing to ask about. That changed when we added Google Analytics and Clarity, and the promise it made was that this page would be updated before it did rather than after.

So you get asked, once. Nothing that needs consent loads until you answer, which means pressing No thanks does not switch the trackers off, it stops them ever arriving. Both buttons are the same size on purpose.

The visitor counter is not behind the banner, because it sets nothing on your device and there is nothing to consent to. Turning it off too would leave us unable to count anybody while collecting no less about you.

Turning them off

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie will stop you from staying signed in, because that is the only thing it does.

To change your answer on this site, clear this site's data in your browser and the question comes back on your next visit.
